FlashChat is a simple, customizable chat room that anyone can add to a PHP/MySQL-enabled website. It includes support for multiple chat forums, administrative controls, file-sharing, multi-byte languages, and IRC-like options, including /ban, /ignore, /alert, and dozens more. FlashChat was one of the original (maybe THE original) Flash-based chatrooms on the web when it was first introduced in 1999. Since then, it has grown to a much more complex and customiable system, and uses Flash MX technology, with PHP/MySQL to run the backend engine. FlashChat does NOT require any other server components, like FlashComm or Java, nor does it require any special server extensions. If you just have a default PHP/MySQL installation on either a Unix/Linux or Windows server, you can set up FlashChat on your website in minutes!

The current version of FlashChat allows extensive customization of the chat themes and background, and which interface elements to show or hide. Nearly every aspect of the interface is controllable through these configuration options: the layout and position of the button controls, the position of the roomlist, the default skin and color theme, etc. Advanced administrative controls exist to change the frequency of chat refreshes to reduce the load on your server, and also to set the maximum message size to reduce bandwidth.
